Sep 09 - New Trail  Development

The mountain bike trails of Gisburn Forest have undergone a major development program that includes a significant addition of red graded singletrack with sections of black graded trail added as well.

The new trails include an easy/moderate 11 kilometre ‘blue’ route for families and beginners and a 22 kilometre ‘red’ course for more experienced and expert mountain bikers.

The trails, which are set against the stunning backdrop of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, include tricky downhill and boardwalk sections and also offer fine views over the nearby Stocks Reservoir.

Volunteers have built well over a kilometer of twisty red grade singletrack with both climbs and descents with a few trail obstacles thrown in.

The balance between fire road and sinlgle track has firmly swung towards single track with somewhere in the region of 70% included on the red route.

An additional five kilometers of singletrack is planned for Gisburn Forest to be constructed by volunteers and contractors if the funding is available.

Volunteers are currently working on new sections of trail. You can influence how some of the routes are developed by joining in at one or more of the fortnightly Gisburn Forest volunteer trail building sessions, with the added benefit of each volunteer hour unlocking further funding.
